About Beaufort
Beaufort, SC is located on Port Royal Island, one of the largest Sea Islands along the southeast Atlantic coast. Its entire downtown is designated an historic district by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Beautiful mansions still stand that were built by wealthy plantation owners before the Civil War. More than 50 historic structures have been identified in Beaufort, including many private homes that have been beautifully restored and are available to view via guided walking, bus or horse-drawn carriage tours.
Named in the 2014 Southern Living’s list of “Small Towns We Love”, Beaufort was one of five towns listed and the lead feature story. Home to many art galleries, antique shops, modern boutiques, golf courses, outdoor adventures, bed and breakfasts and fine dining establishments, this beautiful town is also the home to Hunting Island State Park featuring five miles of beach, thousands of acres of marsh, tidal creeks and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet.
Beaufort is 35 miles from Hilton Head Island and 42 miles from Savannah, GA.
